The New England Patriots made a straightforward roster move on the surface, but it still matters because it brings a familiar receiver back into the mix. WR Mack Hollins has been activated to the 53-man roster from injured reserve, returning after missing time since Oct. 10.
Hollins had appeared in the first four games of the season before landing on IR, and his return gives the Patriots another option at receiver as they continue to manage the active roster. It is the kind of transaction that does not create headlines by itself, but it can still affect how a team balances depth and availability week to week.
The move also came with another roster note in the same stretch of transactions: Elliott Davison was released by New England on Nov. 2. In other words, this was not just a single activation, but part of a broader roster shuffle as the Patriots adjusted the 53-man group.
For the Patriots, the significance is simple. Hollins is back on the active roster, and that means one less question about depth at receiver, at least for now. He had 15 receptions for 209 yards before going on injured reserve, so the team is getting back a player who had already been part of the early-season rotation.
