IGN’s Zelda Ocarina of Time walkthrough sends Link into Dodongo Cavern with one immediate job: reopen the dungeon and keep moving. The guide arrives 28 years after the original game was fully remade, so the route matters as a clean map through a familiar space with new details to read on the fly.
Link has to use a Bomb Flower from above to break back into the cavern on Death Mountain. Once inside, the early route quickly rewards the player with a Blue Rupee and the Dungeon Map, which makes the opening stretch less guesswork and more sequence.
Death Mountain and the entrance chamber
The entrance chamber sets up the walkthrough’s first real decision point. A cracked wall sits at the far end, a Bomb Flower is just to the left, and a plaque reads, “May this colossal and long-dead Dodongo serve as a guide to the hidden path”.
A Beamos also watches the room with a rotating eye and can fire a laser if Link wanders into its line of sight. That changes the opening from simple navigation into a short puzzle: move carefully, use the Bomb Flower to reopen the path, and avoid giving the Beamos an easy shot while clearing the room.
Blue Rupee and Dungeon Map
One alcove hides a Treasure Chest with a Blue Rupee, and another hides a Treasure Chest holding the Dungeon Map. Two cracked walls and a Beamos are on the east side of the room, with a Sheikah Stone revealed behind the northern alcove wall, so the guide is already pushing Link to read the chamber before he pushes deeper into it.
For players working through the remake, that sequence is the practical value here: the cavern is not just opened, it is mapped as Link advances. The early pickups are small, but they turn a blind first run into something that can be followed room by room instead of by memory alone.
Baby Dodongos in the hallway
Baby Dodongos ambush Link in the hallway after the opening room. They skitter forward and lunge, and slashing them causes them to explode after a short moment, which makes the next stretch less about brute force than timing and positioning.
The central door on the west side is sealed even after Link has already cleared part of the room, so the guide keeps the player on the intended route instead of letting the dungeon unfold in a straight line. That is the useful part of this remake walkthrough: it tells you when to push ahead, when to stop, and how to avoid wasting time on a path that is still locked behind the cavern’s own structure.
