Chevrolet has given the GMC Sierra 1500 Denali redesign 2027 a major overhaul on the Silverado 1500, with reshaped sheetmetal, a new interior and two new small-block V-8s. Chevy says the truck is a new generation, even though the chassis carries over from the previous year.

The 2027 Silverado 1500’s cabin brings carbon fiber, wood and bright pops of color, while the exterior adds LED lights, burly wheel lip moldings and a redesigned bumper. For buyers, the change is not just cosmetic: the engine menu now reaches from an upgraded turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder to newly developed V-8s.

Lower trims still start with the turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder rated at 350 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque. The Duramax turbo 3.0-liter inline-six returns with 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque, and Chevrolet says it can be paired with an optional 34-gallon fuel tank that stretches range to 900 miles.

The bigger change sits above those engines. Chevrolet says the 2027 Silverado 1500 gets two brand-new small-block V-8s that are not bored-out versions of the outgoing 5.3- and 6.2-liter engines. Instead, the new 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter engines use completely new blocks, heads, intakes and exhausts, with 346 and 401 cubic inches stamped on the back of the aluminum blocks.

The 5.7-liter V-8 makes 402 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque. The 6.6-liter version produces 481 horsepower and 501 pound-feet of torque, and it adds port fuel injection at low rpm before direct injection comes in as throttle input increases.

Trim structure still matters. The Trail Boss keeps a roughly two-inch suspension lift, rides on 34-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires on 18-inch wheels and offers optional underbody cameras, while the rest of the lineup carries the redesigned bodywork and interior around the same familiar chassis.

GMC Sierra and Silverado

That is the part buyers will want to sort through next. The truck is presented as a new generation, but the platform underneath is familiar, which means the update changes how the Silverado 1500 looks, feels and powers itself without starting from scratch. The open question for anyone comparing the Chevrolet Silverado with the GMC Sierra is how closely the GMC truck mirrors these same engine and design changes.
