Colts Sign Michael Badgley, Move Spencer Shrader to Injured Reserve

The Indianapolis Colts have announced the signing of kicker Michael Badgley to their 53-man roster. This decision follows the injury of Spencer Shrader, who is now placed on the reserve/injured list after suffering a season-ending injury during the Colts’ Week 5 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Injuries and Roster Changes

In addition to Shrader’s injury, cornerback Mike Hilton has also been placed on practice squad injured reserve due to a shoulder injury sustained in the same game. To fill the roster gap, the Colts have signed cornerback Troy Pride Jr. to their practice squad.

Michael Badgley’s Return to the Colts

Michael Badgley has a history with the Colts, having initially joined the team in 2018 as an undrafted free agent. He previously worked alongside Pro Football Hall of Fame nominee Adam Vinatieri during the preseason, although he was waived before the regular season commenced.

Badgley’s second stint with the Colts began in 2021, where he filled in for the injured Rodrigo Blankenship. During that season, from Week 6 to Week 18, Badgley successfully converted 18 of 21 field goal attempts and was perfect on 39 extra point attempts.

Familiar Faces and Smooth Transitions

The presence of experienced players like long snapper Luke Rhodes and punter Rigoberto Sanchez is expected to facilitate Badgley’s transition. Special teams coordinator Brian Mason emphasized the importance of familiarity among team members for a seamless integration of the new kicker.

Mason stated that Sanchez, as the holder, would need to make the biggest adjustments with Badgley on board. However, the existing rapport among the veterans should help streamline the process.
