Madeira Secures Funds and Warns of Inequalities

Madeira has secured additional funding while highlighting ongoing inequalities in regional financial support. Miguel Albuquerque, the President of Madeira, expressed optimism about the recently presented state budget by the national government.
Financial Proposal for Madeira
During a meeting with Luís Montenegro, key aspects of the budget were discussed. A National Cohesion Fund worth €79 million has been earmarked for Madeira. This funding aims to address disparities due to the regional financial legislation.
Additional Financial Support
A supplementary amount of €50 million has also been confirmed from the state budget. This additional compensation addresses shortcomings in the existing law that initially excluded Madeira.
Call for Regional Financial Reform
Albuquerque emphasized the urgent need for a revised regional financial law. He pointed out several technical issues that require attention:
- Mobility subsidies
- VAT regulations for IPSSs
- Settling debts related to police subsystems
Equitable Treatment for Madeira and the Azores
Albuquerque also urged for equal treatment in budget allocations between Madeira and the Azores. He advocates for sustainable and fair financial planning that benefits both regions.
