A trader from Ahmedabad has reported a significant fraud involving an investment in a cigarette and gutkha business. Details of the Fraudulent Scheme

The encounter between Solanki and Baheti began in November 2024 during a train journey on the Duronto Express from Ahmedabad to Mumbai. Baheti introduced himself as a wholesaler and proposed a partnership. He promised substantial returns on investment, which ultimately lured Solanki into the scheme.

Investment Agreement and Promises

Following their initial meeting, Baheti met Solanki at a hotel on Ashram Road to discuss the business venture further. He encouraged Solanki to rent a godown for the operation and suggested an investment of Rs 15 lakh. However, Solanki was not in a position to cover the entire amount.

  • Solanki pledged his wife’s jewelry as collateral.
  • He utilized his credit card to gather Rs 8.7 lakh.
  • The funds were transferred to Baheti through both angadia and online payments.

The transfers occurred between February 7 and February 17. Unfortunately, despite Baheti’s repeated assurances, Solanki never received the promised goods or a refund of his investment.

Seeking Justice

After numerous attempts to retrieve his money failed, Solanki felt compelled to contact law enforcement. The Navrangpura police have since registered a case of cheating against Navratan Baheti. The investigation is ongoing as authorities look into the details of this fraudulent enterprise.
