Oxford Half Marathon Organizers Vow to Minimize Disruption

The Oxford Half Marathon is set to enhance the runner experience while minimizing disruption to the city. Organizers from Motiv Sports announced significant changes to the event this year, including a new start location aimed at reducing congestion in the city center.

Key Details of the Oxford Half Marathon

The marathon will follow a scenic 13.1-mile (21 km) course. Runners will enjoy views of iconic architecture, the River Cherwell, and the historic Old Marston village. The finish line has been relocated from Parks Road to Mansfield Road.

Road Closures and Preparations

To ensure a smooth event, several roads will be closed:

  • Mansfield Road and Savile Road will close from 12:00 on Saturday to prepare the start and finish areas.
  • Parks Road, Holywell Street, and Jowett Walk will be closed from 05:00 on race day, Sunday.

Participants are encouraged to arrive at the event village in Oxford University Parks by 08:30, with the race starting promptly at 09:30. Organizers expect park and ride facilities to be busy, but they have introduced a new race-specific park and ride option at Unipart House.

Impact on Traffic and Expectations

Most roads around the course will reopen as runners pass through, with the last finisher expected to complete the race by 13:45. The organizers hope that the new starting point and revised route will create a better experience for both participants and spectators while ensuring minimal disruption to local traffic.
