Tiger Woods Undergoes Seventh Back Surgery for Disk Replacement

Tiger Woods has recently undergone his seventh back surgery, focusing on a disk replacement in his lower back. This procedure was necessary due to ongoing pain and reduced mobility that Woods has experienced. Announcing the surgery through social media, he confirmed it took place in New York and emphasized that the decision was essential for his health.

Tiger Woods’ Recent Health Challenges

The recent surgery adds to Woods’ long struggle with back issues. It follows a significant operation earlier in 2023 when he ruptured his left Achilles tendon in March. Over the last 13 months, he has undergone two back surgeries. Woods revealed that doctors diagnosed him with a collapsed disc in the L4/5 region, alongside disc fragments and a compromised spinal canal.

Future Golf Participation

Woods has not indicated how long his recovery will take or if he plans to participate in upcoming tournaments. He is considering competing in the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas and the PNC Championship alongside his son, Charlie, both scheduled for December.

A Brief Medical History

  • First back surgery: April 2014
  • Lower back fusion: 2017
  • Tour Championship victory: 2018
  • 15th major win at the 2019 Masters
  • Severe car accident: February 2021
  • Return to golf at 2022 Masters

Woods’ medical history is extensive, with five surgeries relating to his back, adding to other injuries. The most traumatic was the car crash in early 2021, where he nearly faced amputation after severe injuries to his right leg and ankle. Despite these challenges, he made a notable return to professional golf at the 2022 Masters.

In the recent years, Woods has played only 15 times, with four of those appearances at the PNC Championship, where the use of a cart is permitted. As he embarks on another recovery journey, the golf community waits to see how his latest surgery will affect his future in the sport.
