Family Honors ‘Sassy Little Warrior’ After Tragic Death at Age Five

Family and friends are mourning the loss of Luna Ivy Webster, a spirited five-year-old girl from Medway, who tragically passed away on October 4. Described as a “sassy little warrior,” Luna’s life touched numerous people, and in her honor, a GoFundMe campaign has raised over £6,500 to cover funeral expenses.

Celebrating Luna Ivy Webster’s Life

Luna was known for her vibrant personality. Her mother, Jess Gardner, is currently pregnant with her second child and is receiving support from her friend, Aimee Riddell. Aimee shares Luna’s story, highlighting her creativity and love for music. “She was a showstopper, born to be on stage,” Aimee said.

  • Luna’s favorite character was Stitch from “Lilo and Stitch.”
  • She was fond of the recently released K-Pop act, Demon Hunters.
  • Luna had a strong maternal instinct, often caring for her numerous baby dolls.

Health Challenges and Medical Journey

Luna was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS), a rare heart condition affecting 1 in 5,000 births, and typically resulting in around 200 new diagnoses each year in the UK and Ireland. This condition involves underdevelopment of the left side of the heart, impacting its ability to pump blood effectively.

Doctors raised concerns during Jess’s 20-week scan. At 35 weeks into her pregnancy, Jess underwent an emergency C-section to deliver Luna. Upon her birth, she faced multiple medical challenges, including cardiac arrest at just over a month old.

Luna’s treatment included three significant heart surgeries overseen by specialists at Evelina London Children’s Hospital:

  • Norwood procedure – February 2020
  • Glenn procedure – May 2020
  • Fontan procedure – September 23, 2023

Though the Fontan procedure was intended to improve Luna’s life expectancy, she sadly passed away shortly after surgery.

Community Support and Fundraising

In the wake of Luna’s passing, Aimee established a GoFundMe page to support Jess during this heartbreaking time. The fundraiser aims to reach a target of £7,500. The funds will assist with the funeral costs and alleviate any financial burdens Jess may face following her loss.

Aimee emphasized, “This fundraiser highlights just how many lives Luna touched. She will be deeply missed.” Luna, who would have celebrated her sixth birthday on November 5, is remembered as a beloved daughter and a cherished friend by many.
