Nor’easter Cuts Power to Thousands in Massachusetts

Massachusetts experienced significant power outages as the first nor’easter of the season struck the region. Late Sunday night, more than 5,000 residents and businesses found themselves without electricity, according to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA).

Areas Affected by the Nor’easter

The majority of outages affected coastal communities. The hardest hit areas included:

  • Quincy
  • Falmouth
  • Scituate

By Monday morning, the number of outages fell below 2,000, as reported by MEMA’s power outage map.

Weather Conditions and Safety Precautions

Officials warned that heavy rain and strong winds could result in more fallen trees and debris, which may affect electrical lines. An Eversource spokesperson emphasized the company’s readiness to respond to outages and damage.

Reporting Outages and Safety Measures

To ensure safety during the storm, individuals are advised to stay clear of downed power lines. Eversource recommended the following:

  • Stay away from downed wires.
  • Keep pets at a safe distance from electrical hazards.
  • Report downed wires to 911 immediately.
