Titans Appoint Mike McCoy as Interim Head Coach

The Tennessee Titans have made a significant coaching change by appointing Mike McCoy as the interim head coach for the remainder of the 2025 season. This decision comes after the dismissal of Brian Callahan earlier in the week.

Mike McCoy’s Background

Mike McCoy, aged 53, has been with the Titans as a senior offensive assistant since earlier this year. His coaching resume is noteworthy, including a tenure as head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers from 2013 to 2016. During his time with the Chargers, McCoy recorded 27 wins and 37 losses.

Coaching Career

  • Chargers Head Coach: 2013-2016
  • Broncos Offensive Coordinator: 2017
  • Cardinals Offensive Coordinator: 2018
  • Jaguars Quarterbacks Coach: 2022-2024

Before entering coaching, McCoy was a professional quarterback. He went undrafted from the University of Utah in 1995. His playing career included time with several NFL teams, such as the Broncos, Packers, 49ers, Eagles, and Seahawks.

Coaching Pathway

McCoy began his coaching journey with the Carolina Panthers in 2000, starting as an offensive assistant. He gradually rose through the ranks to become the passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

In 2009, he became the offensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos, where he served until he was hired by the Chargers in 2013.

Future Challenges

As the interim head coach, one of McCoy’s immediate priorities will be developing the Titans’ 2025 No. 1 overall pick, Cam Ward. Ensuring Ward’s growth is essential for the team’s future success.

This change in leadership signals a new direction for the Titans as they aim to turn their season around under McCoy’s guidance.
