Blake Prioritizes World Cup Spot Above All Else

Andre Blake, the captain of the Reggae Boyz, expressed his commitment to securing Jamaica’s second appearance in the FIFA World Cup. Since joining the national team in 2010, Blake has become a key player, with 89 caps and a captaincy since 2017.
Blake’s Journey with the National Team
Blake made his international debut in 2014. Throughout his career, he has helped the team achieve significant milestones:
- Caribbean Cup Winner: 2014
- Caribbean Cup Runner-Up: 2017
- Concacaf Gold Cup Runner-Up: 2015 & 2017
- Concacaf Nations League Bronze Medal: 2023-24
As the longest-serving player currently on the roster, Blake aims to lead his teammates toward qualification for the 2026 World Cup, the first since Jamaica’s debut in France in 1998.
Aiming for World Cup Qualification
“All I want right now is to do whatever I can to make my teammates proud, to make my nation proud, to make the fans proud,” Blake stated. He emphasized the team’s collective goal to qualify, recognizing the immense pride Jamaica holds in soccer.
Despite these ambitions, challenges lie ahead. The Reggae Boyz faced a surprising 0-2 defeat against Curacao recently, placing them second in Group B with six points. Curacao currently leads with seven points.
Upcoming Matches and Group Dynamics
To advance to the World Cup, Jamaica must win their upcoming matches, including a crucial game against Bermuda scheduled for today at 7 p.m. at the National Stadium. Jamaica previously defeated Bermuda convincingly, winning 4-0 in their last encounter.
Meanwhile, Curacao will host Trinidad at the Ergilio Hato Stadium at 6 p.m. Their previous match ended in a scoreless draw.
As the World Cup approaches, all eyes are on Blake and the Reggae Boyz. The team’s resilience and ambition are key as they strive for success in their remaining qualifiers.
