Sugar Reunites for New York, London Concerts and Releases First Song in 30 Years

Sugar, an influential alt-rock band formed by Bob Mould after the breakup of Hüsker Dü, is set to reunite. The band will perform live for the first time in over thirty years.

Sugar’s New Music and Tour Plans

The reunion includes a series of concert dates scheduled for May 2026 in major cities: New York and London. Original members Bob Mould, bassist David Barbe, and drummer Malcolm Travis will all participate in this exciting comeback.

New Single Release

Accompanying the reunion, Sugar will release their first new song in three decades, titled “House of Dead Memories.” Bob Mould described the track as a “failed-relationship song” in a recent interview. He mentioned that while the theme might not be groundbreaking, the song features a distinctive Sugar riff.

Mould expressed his enthusiasm for recording with his bandmates again after a long hiatus, noting how enjoyable it was to collaborate in the studio.

Background of the Reunion

The band previously reunited in 2011 for their 20th anniversary, but according to Mould, the reunion did not lead to further collaboration at that time. He was focused on his solo career, with his latest album, “Here We Go Crazy,” released in March.

However, following a productive studio session last year, the trio decided now is the right time to revive Sugar. Mould said their future activities will largely reflect the audience’s response to the new music and upcoming shows.

Upcoming Releases

  • The new single “House of Dead Memories” will be released by Granary Music/BMG.
  • A 4xLP reissue of their debut album, Copper Blue – The Singles Collection, will launch next month for Record Store Day.
  • A live box set featuring Hüsker Dü titled “1985: The Miracle Year” will also be available next month.
