Chris Hemsworth Embarks on Memorable Road Trip with Father Facing Alzheimer’s

As dementia affects over 57 million individuals globally, Chris Hemsworth is sharing a poignant journey with his father. In an upcoming documentary titled Chris Hemsworth: A Road Trip to Remember, the actor embarks on a meaningful motorcycle trip with his father, Craig, who has been diagnosed with early-stage Alzheimer’s disease.

Documentary Overview

Directed by Tom Barbor-Might and produced for National Geographic, this one-hour documentary highlights the father-son duo as they travel across Australia. The trailer features Chris stating, “My dad and I are going on a road trip, back into our past.” The documentary will premiere on November 23 and will be available for streaming on Disney+ and Hulu a day later.

Importance of the Journey

For Chris, the trip serves as an opportunity to rekindle memories and strengthen their bond. He mentions that visiting different places helps trigger memories for his father. “Turns out, this experience could help fight the disease,” Chris explains.

Collaboration with Experts

Throughout this journey, they are guided by Dr. Suraj Samtani, a dementia specialist from the University of New South Wales Centre for Healthy Brain Aging. Dr. Samtani worked with the Hemsworth family for a year, focusing on the science of social connection as a potential aid in Alzheimer’s care.

Personal Reflections

Chris reflects on how he and Craig had always wished to explore the Northern Territory where their family once lived. However, due to various commitments, they had never found the time to embark on this journey until now. “The result was a more profound, more moving, and more surprising journey than I ever anticipated,” he adds.
