Usyk Dismisses Itauma Fight, Eyes 2026 Boxing Comeback

Oleksandr Usyk has confirmed that he plans to continue his boxing career for another two years. The heavyweight champion intends to return to the ring in 2026. However, he has ruled out a fight with British boxer Moses Itauma.

Usyk’s Career Plans

At 38 years old, Usyk recently claimed victory over Daniel Dubois, making him a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion. This fight took place at Wembley Stadium in July. Usyk, who has also held all four world titles in cruiserweight boxing, previously indicated that he might retire after one final fight. Yet, he has now changed his stance.

Training and Future Ambitions

  • Usyk plans to continue fighting until age 41.
  • After retiring, he aims to build a sports academy to train future athletes.
  • The boxer is currently back in training following a back injury.

He had to postpone a scheduled fight against WBO mandatory challenger Joseph Parker due to this injury. Usyk expressed optimism about returning to the ring next year, emphasizing that negotiations for his next fight are still ongoing.

Itauma Not in the Picture

Despite ongoing discussions, Usyk has firmly dismissed the possibility of a matchup with 20-year-old Moses Itauma. Usyk stated, “No, I won’t fight Itauma. He’s young – always teasing me. And he said himself he doesn’t hit grandpas.” This comment highlights Usyk’s decision to avoid fighting younger opponents at this stage in his career.

Itauma’s Recent Performance

Moses Itauma has been making waves in the boxing world. He recently improved his record to 13 wins, including 11 knockouts, by defeating former world title contender Dillian Whyte in under two minutes in August. The WBA has mandated that Kubrat Pulev, the organization’s secondary champion, face Itauma next. However, Pulev is interested in defending his title against Murat Gassiev in Dubai in December.

As Usyk prepares for his future in the sport, it remains to be seen who his next opponent will be, but it certainly will not include Itauma.
