The Yorkshire Marathon Festival is scheduled for Sunday, October 19, drawing over 10,000 participants from all walks of life. This year signifies the event’s 12th anniversary, highlighting its commitment to inclusivity for all abilities. The marathon will take place at the University of York’s Heslington campus, featuring a picturesque route through the city and its surrounding areas. Yorkshire Marathon: Essential Road Closures

To ensure the safety of participants, several road closures will be enforced during the event. Here are the crucial details regarding these closures:

Road Closures on Saturday, October 18

  • University Road: Closed from 10 AM to 11 PM, between Innovation Way and Green Dykes Lane.

Road Closures on Sunday, October 19

Starting at 6 AM, the following roads will be closed:

  • A166 Church Balk
  • Church Street
  • Eastfield Lane
  • Stockhill Close
  • Green Dykes Lane
  • Heslington Lane
  • Main Street (Heslington)

Crossing points at Thief Lane will remain open for residents until 9:30 AM. Additional city center roads affected include:

  • Lawrence Street
  • Walmgate
  • Deny’s Road
  • Piccadilly
  • Parliament Street
  • High Ousegate
  • Spurriergate
  • St Helen’s Square
  • Coney Street

These city center closures will begin at 8 AM. Further road closures in the vicinity will start at 8:30 AM and 9:15 AM.

Parking Restrictions

Parking prohibitions will be in place from 4 PM on October 18 until 6 PM on October 19, ensuring clear access for the marathon. A park and ride service will accommodate participants, spectators, and visitors during the event.

Managing Disruptions

Tristan Batley-Kyle, operations director at Run For All, acknowledged the disruptions caused by the closures. He noted the festival’s expansion, which attracts both local and international runners while supporting charitable causes. All road closures will be lifted once it is safe for everyone involved.
