Ontario Woman’s Mother Speaks After Daughter’s Death in Amber Alert Incident
The tragic death of 29-year-old Savannah Kulla in a Brampton shooting incident has left her family and community in shock. Her mother, Karen Kulla, described her daughter as a beautiful, strong woman who was a loving mother of four children.
Details of the Shooting Incident
On Tuesday afternoon, around 2 p.m., Peel Regional Police responded to reports of a woman shot at a shopping plaza located at Airport Road and Queen Street East in Brampton. Savannah was pronounced dead at the scene. The alleged shooter, identified as 38-year-old Anthony Deschepper, was previously in a relationship with Savannah but had broken up a few months prior.

According to Karen, Savannah had expressed concerns for her safety, stating, “If I stay with him, he’s gonna end up killing me.” Karen advised her daughter to seek a restraining order, but Savannah dismissed the idea, believing it would be ineffective.
Amber Alert and Subsequent Events
Following the shooting, an Amber Alert was issued around 5 p.m. for Savannah’s 17-month-old daughter, identifying Deschepper as the suspect. Authorities reported that the child was later found safe with family members. This incident is believed to be linked to intimate partner violence.
A subsequent alert was issued at 6:52 p.m. by Niagara Regional Police, advising residents to shelter in place as Deschepper was believed to be in the Crystal Beach area. This alert was lifted shortly afterward when it was determined he was no longer in that vicinity.
Police Engagement
In the early hours of Wednesday, police located Deschepper at a gas station in Niagara Falls. An interaction between him and law enforcement resulted in him being shot and killed by officers. Fortunately, no officers were injured during this confrontation.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is now investigating the circumstances surrounding the police shooting. They are collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses as part of their inquiry.
Deschepper’s Background
Further investigation revealed that Anthony Deschepper had a prior warrant for firearm-related offenses. He had been arrested earlier in 2023 for allegedly discharging a firearm at a residence in Brampton and was out on bail awaiting trial set for 2026.
In reflecting on her daughter’s death, Karen expressed her disbelief and grief, stating that she could not imagine life without Savannah. The loss of a bright and loving individual has left a significant void in the hearts of her family.
