Amazon and Gary Sinise Foundation Award Equipment Grants to Local Firefighters

This week, significant donations were made to local fire departments in Bellevue and South King County by the Gary Sinise Foundation in collaboration with Amazon. In a bold gesture ahead of National First Responders Day on October 28, these organizations awarded over $100,000 in equipment grants aimed at enhancing first responder capabilities.

A Generous Equipment Grant for Bellevue Firefighters

The Bellevue Fire Foundation received a notable $56,000 grant. This funding will facilitate the acquisition of thermal imaging cameras. These advanced devices enable firefighters to navigate safely through smoke and darkness by detecting heat signatures.

Support for South King Fire and Rescue

  • $50,000 grant awarded to South King Fire.
  • Funding designated for 14 self-contained breathing apparatuses.
  • Grant also includes two sets of night-vision goggles for Fire Boat Zenith.

This equipment empowers the South King Fire department to respond efficiently and safely during aquatic emergencies. The fire district operates in multiple areas, including Auburn, Des Moines, and Federal Way.

Community Appreciation Events

Alongside the equipment donations, Amazon and the Gary Sinise Foundation hosted meal gatherings for first responders. These events expressed gratitude for their unwavering commitment to public safety. In a recent demonstration, South King Fire firefighters showcased their new night-vision goggles to local police officers.

Prior Contributions and Philanthropic Efforts

This year’s donations build on previous support provided by the Gary Sinise Foundation and Amazon. Last year, they contributed over $200,000 in grants to various fire departments across the state, including Spokane County Fire District 10 and the Everett Fire Department.

Leadership Statements

Chrissy Kreisel, senior director of corporate and foundation relations at the Gary Sinise Foundation, expressed gratitude for Amazon’s partnership. She emphasized the profound impact these contributions have on local heroes.

Dean Allsopp, community engagement manager for Amazon, echoed this sentiment. He stated, “Our collaboration with the Gary Sinise Foundation allows us to give back to the Puget Sound community, ensuring firefighters are well-equipped to protect us.”

Overall, these initiatives highlight the vital role played by private partnerships in supporting first responders and enhancing public safety.
