“Howard University Homecoming Begins with Yardfest Family Reunion”
Howard University recently commenced its 101st Homecoming weekend with the energetic Yardfest 2025. This year’s celebration carries the theme “One of One,” emphasizing the university’s unique identity and commitment to community service.
Yardfest 2025: A Family Reunion
On October 24, 2025, alumni and current students gathered at the historic yard for a festive celebration filled with music and fashion. Many attendees described the event as a vital family reunion, bringing together generations of Bison.
Alumni Reflections
- Kenny Harris, a 2012 graduate, said, “This weekend is special because it’s a family reunion.”
- Pat France, from the class of 1986, noted that even though Yardfest had a different name in her time, the energetic atmosphere remains unchanged.
France highlighted the warmth and love of the Howard community as key reasons for her return. “It’s gotten a lot more professional,” she remarked, reflecting on the event’s evolution.
Student Perspectives
The theme of connection was echoed by students at the event. Winston Owens, a sophomore photographer, emphasized the unique interactions with artists, saying, “The artists will literally come out and just have a normal conversation with you.”
Fashion also played a significant role during Yardfest. Freshman Azariah Powell shared her excitement over her outfit choice for the occasion, while fellow freshman Akeelah Shaw expressed her eagerness for her first homecoming experience. “I’m looking forward to the community of Howard and the Bison love,” she said.
Upcoming Events
The weekend festivities will continue with a highly anticipated football game, where the Howard Bison are set to face off against the Morgan State Bears. Alumni and students alike are brimming with enthusiasm for the event.
Kenny Harris humorously made a bold prediction, stating, “We’ve never lost. We never lost a party.” This light-hearted statement captures the spirit of camaraderie and celebration that defines Howard University’s Homecoming weekend.
