Top Players to Form Black Stars’ 2026 World Cup Squad, Says Kurt Okraku
Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has confirmed that the Black Stars’ selection for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will focus on the best-performing players. Despite the recent disappointment of not qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Ghana aims to shine on the global stage next summer.
Commitment to Excellence in Player Selection
Okraku stated that the final squad will include only top talents. Currently, head coach Otto Addo has not revealed the complete roster, but the GFA’s Executive Council is clear on its expectations. “Every Ghanaian who is performing well will be given a chance by the technical team,” he noted during an interview with Asempa FM. He emphasized that while many players may be eligible, only 24 will ultimately form the squad.
Support for Transparency and Merit
Okraku has also supported calls from the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, for greater transparency and merit in the selection process. “What the Executive Council demands from the technical team is the best,” he explained. He welcomed Adams’ insistence on fielding the strongest team, stating, “Ghana must field the best players as always.”
Upcoming World Cup Draw
The anticipation continues as the draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is scheduled for December 5, 2025. The GFA and the Black Stars are preparing for an impactful presence at the tournament. As the preparations unfold, fans eagerly await updates on the squad selection.
