Patriots Trade Defensive End Keion White to 49ers
The New England Patriots have finalized a trade that sends defensive end Keion White to the San Francisco 49ers. This move is part of a strategic player exchange aimed at bolstering the 49ers’ defensive lineup.
Trade Details
In the trade, the Patriots will acquire a 2026 sixth-round pick from the 49ers. In return, they will send a 2026 seventh-round pick along with White.
Keion White’s Performance
Keion White was selected by the Patriots in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Since then, he has participated in five games, starting in one. Throughout this season, White has recorded six tackles, including 123 defensive snaps. He has also logged 43 snaps on special teams.
This year has seen limited use of White in the interior defensive line, as he has only played eight snaps in that position. Last season, he was more versatile, contributing 56 tackles and five sacks while playing both edge and interior spots.
49ers’ Defensive Needs
The trade comes after the 49ers faced significant challenges with injuries in their defensive lineup. Nick Bosa, a key player for San Francisco, is out for the season following an ACL tear suffered in Week 3. Adding to their concerns, the 49ers recently lost Trevis Gipson, who was signed by the Panthers off their practice squad.
Current Injuries
Alongside Bosa’s injury, San Francisco is dealing with several other players sidelined due to hamstring and ankle injuries:
- Bryce Huff (hamstring)
- Yetur Gross-Matos (hamstring)
- Sam Okuayinonu (ankle)
The acquisition of Keion White aims to address the 49ers’ urgent need for depth at the defensive end position as they navigate a challenging season marked by player injuries.
