Sixers’ Initiative Supports Thousands of Local Kids This Season

The Philadelphia 76ers, in collaboration with Penn Medicine, have announced an initiative aimed at benefiting local children during the 2025-26 NBA season. This program, known as Assists for Safe Communities, pledges to donate $76 for each assist registered by the team throughout the season.
Support for Local Organizations
This year, the Sixers will partner with six local organizations. These groups include:
- Ordinarie Heroes
- Free All Minds Academy
- The Apologues
- Open Door Abuse Awareness Prevention
- Design FC
- Level Up Philly
Each organization will host events featuring Sixers players and will receive a portion of the grant funding. Last season, the initiative raised an impressive $144,476.
Impact on Local Youth
A notable success story comes from the program “Shoot Basketballs Not People.” The funding it received allowed for the purchase of new uniforms for over 1,500 local youth basketball players.
Tyrique Glasgow, from the Young Chances Foundation, shared how the grant expanded their summer camp. The funds also supported a trip for 42 children to San Juan, Puerto Rico, and enhanced food supply drives. More than 500 additional kids joined their mentorship program thanks to this initiative.
A Personal Connection
Last season, Sixers forward Adem Bona participated in a “Freedom Ride” alongside Young Chances Foundation students, visiting Cliveden of the National Trust. This memorable experience helped strengthen the connection between the team and the community.
Bona remarked on the importance of engaging with the city. He acknowledged that the fans are the pulse of the team. “Whenever you come in the game, you feel the energy of the fans,” he stated. “It’s really important to connect with the city and make them part of the team.”
Current Season Performance
The Sixers, currently maintaining a 3-0 record, achieved 25 assists in a recent victory over the Magic, adding another $1,900 to the initiative. This season, they are averaging 25.7 assists per game, two more than the previous year.
The Assists for Safe Communities initiative exemplifies the Philadelphia 76ers’ commitment to giving back and making a positive impact on local youth through sports and community involvement.
