Canadiens Waive Defenseman Trudeau

The Montreal Canadiens have announced the waiver placement of defenseman William Trudeau. This move allows for a potential loan to the Laval Rocket, the team’s AHL affiliate. Trudeau has faced challenges this season due to an injury that sidelined him since training camp. Despite this setback, he remained on the Canadiens’ roster while recuperating.
William Trudeau’s Background
Trudeau was selected as a fourth-round pick by the Canadiens in the 2021 NHL Draft, taken 113th overall. Last season, he participated in 68 games for Laval, recording five goals and 19 points. He re-signed with Montreal on July 3 for a one-year deal valued at $775,000.
Canadiens Roster Updates
- Forwards Kirby Dach and Brendan Gallagher did not participate in practice; it was a designated therapy day for them.
- The Canadiens recently concluded a four-game road trip, achieving a record of 3-1 against teams from Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, and Seattle.
- Goaltender Samuel Montembeault is set to start in the upcoming game against the Ottawa Senators.
Montembeault, who has struggled early this season, holds a record of 2-3 with an .842 save percentage and a 3.82 goals against average in five appearances. He previously played 62 games in the last season, achieving 31 victories.
Other Team Movements
The Canadiens have also loaned David Reinbacher to the Laval Rocket. Reinbacher, the fifth-overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, is returning from a hand injury sustained in a preseason game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
As the season progresses, the Canadiens will be looking to strengthen their lineup as they prepare for their next matchup.
