Taylor Sheridan and Peter Berg Join Forces
Renowned screenwriter and producer Taylor Sheridan, famous for creating Yellowstone and its spinoffs, has been chosen to script and produce the Call of Duty movie. Meanwhile, Peter Berg, who previously directed Lone Survivor, will direct and co-produce the film alongside Sheridan. David Glasser will also join the production team.
A Movie Long in the Making
The idea for a Call of Duty film has been in development since 2009, when Activision first filed for a trademark. However, the project faced numerous setbacks over the years. In 2013, then-CEO Bobby Kotick expressed doubts about adapting the franchise to film, arguing that video game adaptations often fail to satisfy fans.
In 2016, Activision Blizzard Studios was established and aimed to create a cinematic universe similar to Marvel’s, which reignited interest in the project. Subsequent attempts to launch a Call of Duty movie included Stefano Sollima as a potential director in 2018, with plans for sequels already in discussion. Unfortunately, these plans did not materialize.
