Wet Halloween Forecast as Melissa’s Remnants Combine with Low Pressure System

This Halloween, a combination of the remnants of Hurricane Melissa and a low-pressure system is set to bring wet weather to Newfoundland and Labrador. Meteorologists are cautioning residents as heavy rainfall is expected, particularly during the evening hours.
Wet Halloween Forecast: Remnants of Hurricane Melissa Join Forces with Low Pressure System
Chris Fogarty, a meteorologist at the Canadian Hurricane Centre in Halifax, is closely monitoring the track of Hurricane Melissa. While the eastern Avalon and St. John’s area may not face severe wind conditions, significant rainfall is anticipated.
Weather Impact on Local Communities
The entire island will experience effects from both the low-pressure system and Hurricane Melissa. Graham MacDonald from the Gander Weather Office suggests that trick-or-treaters should consider heading out earlier to avoid the worst of the weather.
- The southwest coast should ideally complete trick-or-treating before 6 p.m.
- Other regions should look to finish by 8 or 9 p.m. to stay dry.
- Rainfall totals are expected to reach between 20 to 30 mm across most areas.
Despite the looming rain, residents are encouraged to enjoy the festivities while preparing for wet conditions. Trick-or-treaters should dress appropriately and remain cautious of the weather changes. Overall, it will be a memorable Halloween for all, albeit a soggy one.
