Montreal Transit Authority Announces Update on Imminent Strikes

Montreal’s public transit authority is preparing to address imminent strikes affecting transit services this week. A news conference will be held at 9 a.m. to clarify the situation. If no agreement is reached, a complete shutdown of bus and Metro services is scheduled for Saturday, beginning at 4 a.m. and lasting for 24 hours.
Details of the Transit Authority’s Update on Strikes
The recent decision by Quebec’s labor tribunal permits a one-day strike initiated by the union representing drivers, Metro operators, and station agents. This strike will halt all operations until just before 4 a.m. on Sunday. However, adapted transit services will remain operational.
Ongoing Strikes and Service Reductions
In addition to the one-day strike, the Syndicat du transport de Montréal has been authorized for a four-week strike starting tonight at 10 p.m., continuing through to November 28. Throughout this duration, only rush-hour services will be available, while paratransit services will continue uninterrupted.
- Buses will operate during these hours:
- 6:15 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.
- 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- Night service from 11:15 p.m. to 1:15 a.m.

- Metro services will function at the following times:
- 6:30 a.m. to 9:40 a.m.
- 2:45 p.m. to 5:50 p.m.
- Night service from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.

This marks the third strike by the maintenance workers’ union this year, making it the longest thus far. The union’s president, Bruno Jeannotte, expressed the group’s awareness of the strike’s potential impact and emphasized their commitment to reaching an agreement. Yet, he criticized the STM for taking a hardline stance.
Future Strike Notices
The Syndicat des chauffeurs, opérateurs et employés des services connexes (SCFP 1983), representing bus and Metro drivers, has set the possibility of strikes on November 15 and 16. Meanwhile, the STM has stated its financial constraints in meeting union demands and has announced the potential reduction of 300 jobs.
To remain informed about any schedule changes and service updates, commuters are advised to frequently check the STM’s official website.
