Sinner Reaches First Quarterfinal in Paris, Joining Shelton and De Minaur

Valentin Vacherot has made headlines by reaching the quarterfinals at the Paris Masters 1000 tournament. On Thursday morning, he defeated Cameron Norrie with a score of 7-6 (4), 6-4.

Sinner Reaches Quarterfinals in Paris Alongside Shelton and De Minaur

This victory comes shortly after Vacherot’s successful run at the Shanghai Masters earlier this month, where he secured his first career title. During that tournament, he notably overcame 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in the semifinals and then defeated his cousin, Arthur Rinderknech, in the final.

Upcoming Match Against Auger-Aliassime

In Paris, Vacherot, currently ranked 40th globally, previously bested Rinderknech in the second round. His quarterfinal opponent will be Félix Auger-Aliassime, the ninth seed, who recovered from a set down to defeat Germany’s Daniel Altmaier, winning 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Sinner’s Pursuit of Rankings

Meanwhile, American Ben Shelton, the fifth seed, also advanced by defeating 12th-ranked Andrey Rublev, with a score of 7-6 (6), 6-3. Shelton will face Italian Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals. Sinner triumphed over Francisco Cerundolo, winning 7-5, 6-1.

Sinner is competing to reclaim the top position in the world rankings from Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz. To achieve this, he must win the tournament. The talented Italian is aiming for his fifth title of 2025 and the 23rd of his career.

Recent Performances

Last Sunday, Sinner secured a victory at an ATP 500 event despite facing cramps during the match. “My main priority is to recover physically,” he stated before facing Shelton, adding that his previous match was a significant performance.

In another match, the fourth-ranked American Taylor Fritz was eliminated by Kazakh player Alexander Bublik, who won 7-6 (5), 6-2. On the other hand, Australian Alex De Minaur, ranked sixth, easily advanced past Russian Karen Khachanov with a score of 6-2, 6-2. Bublik and De Minaur will meet in the quarterfinals.

The final match scheduled for the day features last year’s tournament champion, Alexander Zverev, facing Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. The winner will face Russian Daniil Medvedev, who defeated Italian Lorenzo Sonego in a hard-fought match, 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4.
