Kentucky Falters Against Georgetown 84-70 in Final Exhibition Test
The Kentucky Wildcats faced a disappointing defeat against Georgetown, losing 84-70 in their final exhibition game at Rupp Arena. This contest came just days after Kentucky had a strong showing against the top-ranked Purdue team.
Kentucky’s Struggles
In this matchup, Kentucky was without two starting guards, Jaland Lowe and Denzel Aberdeen, due to injury. Their absence left the Wildcats struggling to establish a rhythm on offense. The team managed to shoot only 33.3% from the field, 23.3% from beyond the arc, and a poor 65.7% from the free-throw line.
Defensive Challenges
Defensively, Kentucky also struggled. The Hoyas had three players scoring 14 or more points, with Malik Mack leading the team with 22 points. Georgetown exhibited a solid shooting performance, connecting on 55.4% of their shots.
Individual Performances
- Otega Oweh: 17 points (4-12 FG; 8-11 FT), 3 rebounds
- Mo Dioubate: 13 points, 7 rebounds
- Collin Chandler: 11 points, 7 rebounds (2-9 FG, 5 turnovers)
Despite the loss, there were some bright spots for Kentucky. Oweh led the team in scoring, while Dioubate contributed significantly with both points and rebounds. Chandler, taking on more point guard responsibilities, also provided scoring despite his shooting struggles.
Game Progression
The game started competitively, with Georgetown holding a slim 21-19 lead midway through the first half. However, the Hoyas quickly established dominance, mainly due to their physical style of play. By halftime, Georgetown led 46-39, shooting 56.3% to Kentucky’s insufficient shooting.
Georgetown extended their lead to 14 points shortly after the start of the second half, which later grew to as many as 17 points. Kentucky fought back to narrow the gap to 10 points, energizing the home crowd momentarily, but couldn’t convert it into a closer contest.
Looking Ahead
Despite the disappointing result, Kentucky’s performance in this exhibition will not affect their official record. The Wildcats will have an opportunity to regroup before their season opener against Nicholls on Tuesday at 7:00 PM ET, which will be broadcast on the SEC Network+.
