Jets HC Aaron Glenn Engages as NFL Trade Deadline Nears

The New York Jets are navigating a crucial phase as the NFL Trade Deadline approaches. Following a thrilling 39-38 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, the Jets will not play again until they face the Cleveland Browns on November 9.

Trade Activity and Team Dynamics

Head Coach Aaron Glenn acknowledges that trade inquiries are likely during this period. “Everybody listens, but that doesn’t mean that you act on anything,” he stated. The team is experiencing a noticeable shift in culture and performance, highlighted by their strong fourth-quarter comeback against the Bengals.

Defensive tackle Harrison Phillips praised his teammates’ spirits post-victory. “It was really fun to see a different side of my teammates. A lot of smiles and joking,” he said, indicating a growing camaraderie within the team.

Recent Acquisitions

General Manager Darren Mougey has already made strategic moves to enhance the roster. Significant trades have included:

  • Acquisition of DT Harrison Phillips from the Minnesota Vikings
  • DT Jowon Briggs from the Cleveland Browns
  • CB Jarvis Brownlee Jr. from the Tennessee Titans
  • WR John Metchie III from the Philadelphia Eagles
  • DT Derrick Nnadi sent back to the Kansas City Chiefs

Phillips has been a consistent contributor, starting all eight games and recording 21 tackles. Briggs, who has also made an impact, has 12 tackles and 2 sacks to his name. Meanwhile, Brownlee has embraced his role, logging 136 defensive snaps and making 7 tackles against the Bengals.

“That’s the reason why he’s here,” Glenn said regarding Brownlee’s contributions. He appreciates the efforts of Mouge and the personnel department in finding players who fit the team’s needs.

Discipline and Performance

The Jets showcased disciplined football against the Bengals. They managed to avoid turnovers while registering 502 yards of total offense. The team also showed improvement in penalties, committing only 4 for 25 yards, notably better than their previous games.

In the last three games, the team has averaged just 3.6 penalties per game, a statistic Glenn points to as a measure of progress.

Injury Concerns

On the injury front, rookie linebacker Kiko Mauigoa is in concussion protocol. Veteran safety Andre Cisco sustained a torn pectoral against the Bengals, making his future uncertain. Rookie Malachi Moore and fourth-year safety Tony Adams may need to step up, with Adams contributing 20 tackles this season.

Looking Ahead to the Trade Deadline

With the NFL Trade Deadline set for November 4 at 4 p.m. ET, Glenn and his coaching staff will be evaluating player performances. Meanwhile, Mougey and his team will consider trades that could improve the immediate roster or acquire future assets for continued development.
