Del Mar Council to Review Shores Park Master Plan Committee Appointments
The Del Mar City Council is set to vote on November 3 regarding appointments to the newly formed Shores Park Master Plan ad hoc advisory committee. This committee aims to guide the development of the Shores Park master plan, an initiative that has garnered significant interest from residents and stakeholders.
Committee Appointments
The council will review the appointments of six primary voting members. The candidates include:
- Saniya Bloomer
- Alessandra Franco
- Will Holliday
- Joe Sullivan
- Larry Brooks
- Judd Halenza
In addition, Lynn Gaylord is under consideration as a resident voting member representing the Parks and Recreation Committee. Kim Kanetis and Thomas Neuman will serve as non-voting ex-officio members, representing The Winston School and the Del Mar Community Building, respectively.
Background and Formation of the Committee
Established on September 8, the Shores Park Master Plan committee was created to involve more community members in the planning process. Initially, the council planned for seven voting members but expanded it to nine after receiving 19 applications from interested residents.
Mayor Terry Gaasterland and Councilmember John Spelich were appointed as liaisons to the committee, emphasizing the council’s commitment to involving diverse perspectives in the decision-making process.
Contract for Master Plan Development
On October 20, the council approved a one-year contract valued at approximately $170,000 with Schmidt Design Group. This firm will continue its work on the Shores Park master plan, which was previously stalled in 2019.
Schmidt Design Group’s role will involve refining three initial options into a cohesive plan. The final presentation is expected to include a detailed model, showcasing park amenities, site furnishings, lighting, a conceptual plant palette, and overall design elements.
Timeline
The term for newly appointed committee members will extend from November 3 until the city council adopts the final master plan. This timeline highlights the council’s urgency in moving forward with the Shores Park project, ensuring community input and expert guidance throughout the process.
