Sam Darnold Shines in Seahawks’ Dominant 38-14 Victory Over Commanders

In a commanding performance, Sam Darnold led the Seattle Seahawks to a 38-14 victory over the Washington Commanders on Sunday Night Football. Darnold executed his game plan flawlessly, completing 17 consecutive passes at one point and finishing the night with 21 completions out of 24 attempts, for a total of 330 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception.

Dominant First Half by Darnold

Darnold’s exceptional precision in the first half was highlighted by his 16 completions without a miss. His touchdown passes included:

  • A 4-yard strike to rookie receiver Tory Horton late in the first quarter.
  • A 25-yard TD to Horton midway through the second quarter.
  • A 26-yard touchdown to tight end Elijah Arroyo, scored after a forced fumble on special teams.
  • A 60-yard touchdown connection with wide receiver Cody White, bringing the score to 28-0.

Tied Franchise Record

With 17 consecutive completions, Darnold tied Warren Moon’s franchise record. Seattle closed the half with a 41-yard field goal from Jason Myers, extending their lead. In the third quarter, AJ Barner added a 1-yard touchdown on a tush-push play to elevate the score to 38-14.

Challenges for the Commanders

The night was less favorable for the Commanders, who face a tough situation with their quarterback. Jayden Daniels suffered an arm injury during the fourth quarter while being sacked, resulting in his left arm being placed in an air cast for evaluation.

Daniels’ overall performance included:

  • 16 completions on 22 attempts for 153 yards and one interception.
  • 10 carries for 51 yards, including one touchdown.

Seattle’s defense pressured Daniels throughout the game, recording four sacks against him.

Seattle’s Rising Stars

On the receiving end, Jaxon Smith-Njigba shone with eight catches for 129 yards. This marks his sixth 100-yard game this season, tying the franchise record held by Steve Largent. He also became only the fifth player in the Super Bowl era to register at least 75 receiving yards in each of his first eight games of a season.

The Seahawks improved their record to 6-2 and are set to face off against the division-rival Arizona Cardinals next Sunday. Meanwhile, the Commanders, now at 3-6, will host the Detroit Lions without their starting quarterback, marking a significant setback for the team.
