Witnesses Recall Shock as Two Girls Fall from Ferris Wheel in Louisiana

Two girls sustained injuries after falling from a Ferris wheel during a festival in New Roads, Louisiana. The incident occurred on Saturday, November 1, at the Harvest Festival, prompting a swift response from emergency services.

Incident Details

According to reports from WBRZ, three girls entered a Ferris wheel basket. Witnesses claim that the basket tipped, leading to the fall of both girls, both of whom are under the age of 13. Madison Fields, who was present at the festival, recounted her shock, stating, “I heard like a body, just like something falling, I heard a loud boom.”

Emergency Response

  • One girl was airlifted to a hospital in Baton Rouge.
  • The condition of the two girls remains unknown.

Witnesses described the scene, with some aiding the injured as they lay on the ground. Eddie Jones, who recorded a video of the aftermath, shared his fears regarding ride safety, stating, “Yeah, I’ll probably never get on another Ferris wheel.” Fields also expressed her concern, reflecting on her own plans to ride the attraction later that day.

Investigation Underway

The Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal confirmed they are investigating the incident. Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff Rene Thibodeaux announced that all carnival rides were temporarily shut down for inspection. Following the inspection, all rides except the Ferris wheel were allowed to reopen.

The Harvest Festival, a popular event that began in late October, concluded on November 2 as scheduled, albeit under troubling circumstances. The local community remains shaken by the events, emphasizing the need for safety measures at amusement attractions.
