Costume Creation Process

Crafting the distinctive wigs worn by the TODAY show anchors is a meticulous process. On average, each wig takes approximately 80 hours to complete. This labor-intensive design involves detailed research and planning. Mancuso emphasizes the importance of accuracy, stating, “I print every angle and go over it and over it.”

The wig creation process is often collaborative. Wigs are split into two sections, with separate designers working on each part before they are stitched back together. This approach helps to streamline production without compromising quality.

Challenging Designs

This year’s standout included Savannah’s wig inspired by Miranda Priestly, a character from “The Devil Wears Prada.” Mancuso notes it was the most challenging to create due to its specific color and cut. “You had to go slow and really mix the colors,” she explained.

After perfecting the shade, the wig needed three additional hours for cutting and styling. Mancuso and her team ensure they stay true to the look, combining precision with creativity. “Even though it’s Halloween and it’s supposed to be fun, we usually make it specific then let everybody have fun with it,” she added.
