According to Visit North Carolina, data indicates that restaurants can see sales increases in the double digits following Michelin recognition.

Prime Barbecue, a popular BBQ spot in Knightdale, celebrated its acknowledgement by attracting many patrons. Manager Marcus Shealy expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating, “This is absolutely insane. We are so thankful.” This moment marked a significant milestone, as it is the first time restaurants in the American South have been included in the Michelin Guide.
Chef Scott Crawford’s Journey
Raleigh restaurateur Chef Scott Crawford shared his excitement, noting he never imagined Michelin would extend its reach to the Southeast. After dedicating over 25 years to enhancing the culinary scene in the Capital City, three of his restaurants—Crawford and Son, Jolie, and Brodeto—earned recommendations from Michelin. “It’s the most meaningful recognition that I’ve received in my career,” he remarked.
Recognition Across the Triangle
- Brewery Bhavana: Chef Chun Shi transitioned from a computer programmer to a chef and celebrated her restaurant’s recognition with great joy. “Never in my wildest dreams did I think that Michelin would take an interest,” she said.
- Tamasha Indian Restaurant: Co-Owner Mike Kathrani acknowledged the newfound responsibilities that come with the Michelin distinction, emphasizing the need to elevate their standards.
The tourism department, Visit North Carolina, emphasized that these recognitions will not only bolster the local economy but also help establish the state as a top destination for food enthusiasts. Scott Peacock, a spokesperson for the department, noted, “It’s an amazing opportunity for the whole state of North Carolina.” Michelin recognition offers a global platform that attracts travelers who plan their trips around dining experiences.
