Badlands Team Hints at ‘Alien’ Crossover in Upcoming Sequel

In the upcoming sequel, “Predator: Badlands,” the crossover between the Predator and Alien franchises is taking an exciting turn. Directed by Dan Trachtenberg, this film incorporates elements from the Alien universe, distinguishing itself from previous crossovers, such as “Alien vs. Predator” (2004) and “Aliens vs. Predator – Requiem” (2007).

Pivotal Elements of ‘Predator: Badlands’

At the film’s premiere, Trachtenberg highlighted the significant presence of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation in the storyline. Actress Elle Fanning portrays a Weyland-Yutani synth, adding depth to the narrative.

Unique Narrative Approach

  • Film’s protagonist is Dek, a young member of the Yautja clan, portrayed by Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi.
  • He teams up with Thia, a damaged synth, to confront a formidable opponent.

Producer Ben Rosenblatt shared that integrating an aspect from the Alien franchise felt “super organic,” referencing a spiritual connection between the series. This decision was made to avoid using a human character, shifting the focus to humanoid characters like robots.

Potential for Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Return

Rosenblatt also hinted at the possibility of Arnold Schwarzenegger reprising his iconic role as Dutch. Following his animated cameo in “Predator: Killer of Killers,” discussions between Schwarzenegger and Trachtenberg have been ongoing.

Future of ‘Predator’ Franchise

Rosenblatt noted, “The holy grail of Predator movies would be getting Arnold back in there.” Both Trachtenberg and Schwarzenegger have expressed enthusiasm about the potential collaboration. Further discussions are anticipated after the release of “Predator: Badlands,” slated for November 7.
