This marks the third day of his five-day tour in Brazil, during which he will present the Earthshot Prize, an initiative to support environmental projects.

Standing atop Mount Corcovado, Prince William took a moment to reflect on the stunning views of Rio. The site is renowned for its statue, which hails as one of the largest Art Deco sculptures globally. The statue measures 30 meters in height and 28 meters in width, symbolizing hope and resilience for the people of Rio.
Princess Diana made her memorable visit to Rio in April 1991 during a six-day tour with King Charles III. During Prince William’s visit, residents spoke fondly of his mother, highlighting her enduring legacy in the city.
Earthshot Prize Ceremony
Prince William will host the Earthshot Prize ceremony at the Museum of Tomorrow in Rio on Wednesday. This prestigious event will award five innovative projects a grant of £1 million. The finalists include:
- Guangzhou, China – electric public transport
- Lagos Fashion Week, Nigeria – reshaping the fashion industry
- Barbados – environmental leadership
UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is expected to join the prince for the ceremony before heading to Belem in the Amazon rainforest for COP30. This conference will bring together global leaders to address climate change challenges.
Focus on Environmental Issues
During his visit, Prince William emphasized environmental concerns, particularly the deforestation of the Amazon rainforest. His speech at the United for Wildlife conference highlighted the negative effects of criminal activities on conservation efforts.
Additionally, the prince visited Paqueta Island to engage with the local community, learn about mangrove conservation, and participate in planting tree saplings, reinforcing his commitment to environmental sustainability.
Throughout his trip, security measures have been strict, including temporarily suspending public access to Christ the Redeemer to accommodate his visit. This effort aims to ensure both the safety of the prince and the successful execution of the Earthshot Prize events.
