Broncos Launch Stadium and Neighborhood Design Project with City
The Denver Broncos have initiated an ambitious project focused on developing Burnham Yard, a historic site in Denver. On Wednesday, the team submitted a Large Development Review (LDR) pre-application to the City of Denver, detailing their bold plans for a privately funded stadium accompanied by a mixed-use community.
Denver Broncos’ Stadium and Community Vision
Broncos Owner & CEO Greg Penner, along with Owner Carrie Walton Penner and President Damani Leech, revealed the proposal, which will undergo modifications in collaboration with city officials over the next year. This aligns with Denver’s long-term community needs and priorities.
Burnham Yard was announced as the intended site for a retractable roof stadium on September 9. The Broncos aim to create a vibrant space that enhances quality of life and provides year-round accessibility for residents and visitors. In addition to the LDR, the Broncos are concurrently working on a Community Benefits Agreement and a Small Area Plan.
Community Engagement and Collaboration
The City of Denver’s Community Planning and Development (CPD) department has already provided preliminary input for the LDR. Community feedback will play a crucial role in shaping this project throughout its development. The Broncos emphasized their commitment to a transparent, inclusive engagement process, seeking to honor the area’s rich history.
Greg Penner stated, “Our goal is to create a local asset that expands access and improves quality of life.” He highlighted the importance of engaging with civic leaders and the community to ensure the project reflects their input and concerns.
Project Highlights and Future Plans
- Location: Western edge of Burnham Yard, away from residential neighborhoods.
- Design: A retractable roof stadium, surrounded by a linear park, restaurants, and housing.
- Collaboration: Partnering with Sasaki, known for their expertise in large developments.
- Community Focus: Enhancing connectivity and accessibility for fans, residents, and future generations.
The conceptual layout included in the LDR aims to celebrate the history of Burnham Yard, a former railyard that dates back before Colorado’s statehood. The Broncos are committed to transforming this area into a community hub that connects different neighborhoods and brings lasting benefits to the region.
For those interested in following the project’s progress, the Broncos have launched a dedicated website, newstadium.denverbroncos.com, where fans and residents can sign up for updates and information.
