Anglian Water Pressed to Develop Grimsby Flooding Strategy
Recent flooding in Grimsby has raised concerns about the area’s water management. Market traders on Freeman Street reported significant financial losses due to previous floods that occurred in May and October last year. They stated that these events cost them thousands of pounds in revenue.
Grimsby Flooding Issues
Anglian Water confirmed that the latest flooding incident stemmed from a burst water main. This particular pipe is separate from those involved in previous flooding cases. Local councillors have taken action by addressing recent leaks found on Columbia Road, Hildyard Street, and Roberts Street.
Concerns from Local Councillors
Councillors Nicola Aisthorpe, Steve Beasant, and Loyd Emmerson penned a letter highlighting the need for a comprehensive review of the underground water network in East Marsh. In their correspondence, they called for:
- A borough-wide analysis of the water infrastructure in East Marsh
- An investment plan aimed at replacing the oldest pipework
- Regular updates regarding leaks, repair durations, and system upgrades
Aisthorpe pointed out the ongoing issues, stating, “Streets are being left flooded and our roads repeatedly dug up.” Emmerson urged that Anglian Water should assume responsibility and present a sustainable long-term plan.
Legal Notices and Response from Anglian Water
The council issued three separate legal notices for the East Marsh ward, demanding urgent repairs from Anglian Water. According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, there has been a communication from Anglian Water’s chief executive. Ongoing discussions aim to develop a long-term strategy for both East Marsh and North East Lincolnshire.
As the situation evolves, stakeholders await further comments from Anglian Water regarding these pressing issues in Grimsby.
