Chicago Forecast: First Snowflakes of the Season Expected This Weekend
Chicago is bracing for its first snowflakes of the season this weekend, following an incoming storm system. Rain is forecasted to begin tonight and continue into early Friday morning.
Weather Forecast for Chicago
Most areas are expected to receive about a quarter inch of rain before conditions improve by daybreak on Friday. The daytime on Friday appears pleasant, with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies and high temperatures reaching the lower 60s. However, expect winds to increase, with gusts up to 30 mph from the west.
Weekend Weather Changes
Significant temperature drops are anticipated over the weekend. On Saturday, highs will only reach the upper 40s to nearly 50 degrees, with rain likely arriving by late morning or midday. Rain showers are expected throughout Saturday, transitioning to potential snow as temperatures fall in the evening.
- Rain accumulations will be minimal.
- Grassy and elevated surfaces may experience slight slushy accumulations.
Colder Temperatures Ahead
As we move into Sunday and Monday, temperatures will plunge further, with daytime highs in the 30s. Lake effect snow showers could occur on both days, although their timing and placement remain uncertain. Current forecasts suggest most snow activity may focus on Northwest Indiana, but areas in northeastern Illinois could also see rain or snow if winds shift to a northeasterly direction.
Looking Ahead
Warmer weather is expected by Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. Veterans Day will likely bring cloudy skies and high temperatures in the mid-40s. Following that, temperatures are projected to rise to the mid-50s on Wednesday with partly cloudy conditions.
