Dahlin Steps Away from Sabres for Personal Reasons

Rasmus Dahlin has announced he is stepping away from the Buffalo Sabres to address a personal matter, returning to Sweden. The talented defenseman confirmed that he is receiving full support from his team, as stated by Sabres coach Lindy Ruff. Currently, there is no set schedule for Dahlin’s return to the ice.

Dahlin’s Personal Challenge

On September 19, Dahlin and his fiancée Carolina disclosed a harrowing incident they experienced during the summer. While vacationing in France, Carolina suffered major heart failure. The situation was critical, leading her to receive CPR multiple times before being hospitalized. She remained on life support for weeks until receiving a heart transplant.

In their letter, Dahlin expressed the profound impact of their ordeal, stating, “This has undoubtedly been the most challenging chapter of our lives.” He highlighted the importance of appreciating life and the support they received during this difficult time.

Support from Teammates

Ruff empathized with Dahlin, acknowledging the tremendous challenge he faces. “It’s been incredibly hard. Not easy,” he remarked, highlighting that this situation transcends hockey. He emphasized the need for understanding and compassion as Dahlin navigates this personal crisis.

Dahlin’s Performance

Despite the challenging circumstances, Dahlin has remained a valuable asset to the Sabres this season. He has recorded nine points, including one goal and eight assists, over 14 games. Dahlin was drafted first overall by Buffalo in 2018 and has accumulated a total of 369 points from 523 games played in the NHL.
