Guangzhou, the host city for China’s upcoming 15th National Games, is poised to deliver a remarkable event. Scheduled to begin on Sunday, the Games are significant as they will be the first national-level sports event co-hosted by Hong Kong and Macao. This milestone reflects the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Preparations for the National Games
In anticipation of the Games, Guangzhou has made extensive preparations. The city has ensured reliable transportation, power, and water supply, alongside comprehensive food and medical services.
Urban Improvements
- Guangzhou has initiated 291 urban improvement projects. These improvements enhance roads, neighborhoods, gardens, lighting, and overall urban aesthetics.
- To better serve the Games and future community needs, 30 sports venues have been renovated, showcasing modern amenities.

Among notable renovations, the Tianhe Sports Center Stadium has become China’s first nearly zero-carbon sports facility after achieving over 45% energy savings. Key features include:

The Guangdong Provincial People’s Stadium and Yuexiu Mountain Stadium continue to embody Guangzhou’s rich sporting legacy. Additionally, the city has upgraded fitness pods in the Guangzhou Gymnasium, incorporating state-of-the-art virtual reality and AI features. Four wheelchair viewing areas will cater to attendees with disabilities.
