Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Names 21-Year-Old Killer of Deputy Devin Jaramillo

In a tragic incident on Friday, Deputy Devin Jaramillo of the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office was shot and killed while responding to a minor traffic accident in the Kendall District. The altercation occurred shortly after 3:50 PM near Southwest 122 Avenue and 128 Street, close to the Florida Turnpike.

Details of the Incident

During the traffic stop, Deputy Jaramillo encountered Steven David Rustrian, 21, from South Miami Heights. The encounter escalated into a physical struggle, during which Rustrian disarmed the deputy and shot him multiple times. Following the attack, Rustrian fled to his vehicle and subsequently took his own life.

Immediate Response

Good Samaritans witnessed the altercation and promptly called 911. Emergency responders transported Deputy Jaramillo to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Jaramillo was only 27 years old.
