Rapper Arrested in Malaysia Murder Case of Influencer Found in Bathtub
A Malaysian court has detained rapper Namewee as part of the investigation into the murder of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh. The court remanded Namewee, legally known as Wee Meng Chee, on Monday following his surrender to police on Wednesday. He sought to clarify his involvement after being identified as a “person of interest” in the case.
Death of Taiwanese Influencer
Iris Hsieh, also known as Hsieh Yu-hsin and dubbed the “nurse goddess” by her fans, was found dead on October 22. Her lifeless body was discovered in the bathtub of a luxury hotel in Kuala Lumpur. At the time of her death, Hsieh was in Malaysia to collaborate with Namewee on a commercial video.
Investigation Details
The investigation has shifted from an initial “sudden death report” to a formal murder inquiry. Authorities indicated they want to interrogate Namewee, who is believed to have been the last person with Hsieh before her untimely demise. His attorney, Joshua Tay, mentioned that the court has extended the remand for an additional three days as the inquiry continues.

Drug Charges and Denial of Wrongdoing
Following Hsieh’s death, Namewee contacted emergency services shortly after midnight. Upon investigation, police discovered nine blue pills, suspected to be ecstasy, in the hotel room. Although Namewee has denied any involvement with drugs, he tested positive for several illegal substances, including amphetamines and THC.
On Monday, Namewee pleaded not guilty to the drug charges and was subsequently released on bail. He stated on Instagram that “the truth will speak for itself” regarding the ongoing allegations against him.

Namewee is a renowned figure in the Malaysian music scene, widely recognized for his hip-hop contributions and outspoken lyrics. He is particularly popular in Taiwan and China, where he often performs in Mandarin.
