Michel Barrette Opens Up About Burnout Struggles
Michel Barrette, the renowned storyteller and humorist, has made headlines with his recent announcement. After initially announcing his retirement a few years ago, he is set to return with a brand new show titled “Drôle depuis 1957.”
Burnout Struggles Prompt Retirement Decisions
In a candid conversation on QUB radio, Barrette shared his struggles with professional burnout. He explained how overwhelming fatigue led him to contemplate retirement. “There were times when I felt: ‘This doesn’t make sense, I need a break,’” he shared with Mario Dumont on 99.5 FM Montreal.
Reflecting on a particularly difficult moment, Barrette recounted, “When you get in your car at 6 AM and find yourself crying by the side of the A-20, that’s a sign of burnout.” He credited his wife for guiding him to slow down and reflect on his career’s future during this tumultuous time.
Upcoming Show and New Touring Schedule
Despite earlier retirement plans, Barrette is thrilled to share that he will now perform no more than 25 shows each year. He noted that his touring commitments will last no longer than two years. Barrette aims to focus on performing solely for enjoyment, stating, “The agreement I have with my wife revolves around doing it for fun.”
“Drôle depuis 1957” will feature previously untold anecdotes and a humorous commentary aimed at the baby boomer generation. The official tour is set to kick off in February 2026, with preliminary performances starting in December.
