Marvel Rivals Season 5 Patch Notes: Gambit Arrives at Launch, Rogue in 5.5, Big Team-Ups, Balance Pass, and Cross-Progression
Marvel Rivals Season 5 lands November 14, 2025, headlined by the long-teased X-couple. Gambit is playable on day one; Rogue follows in the 5.5 update in December. Alongside the new heroes, the season brings fresh Team-Ups, sweeping buffs to Vanguards and key Duelists, a new social hub, competitive changes with placement matches, plus the long-awaited cross-progression rollout.
Release plan and the new heroes: Gambit now, Rogue next
-
Gambit (Strategist) — live at Season 5 launch. The card-flinging mutant slots into the under-served Strategist role. His kit focuses on charging objects with kinetic energy for precise explosions and ally utility, with his trademark card throws front and center.
-
Rogue — arrives in Season 5.5 (December). Her power-copy fantasy is intact: a kit built around temporarily borrowing enemy strengths. Final role and numbers drop closer to release.
New and changed Team-Ups (three big additions)
-
Explosive Entanglement — Gambit + Magneto: Gambit charges Magneto’s greatsword with kinetic energy, replacing Magneto’s primary with a launch that detonates on impact.
-
Sword of Duality — Cloak & Dagger + Hawkeye: Hawkeye’s katana gains light/dark energy; Crescent Slash now knocks back, fires a dual-wave that heals/buffs allies and damages/anti-heals enemies.
-
Blade of Khonshu — Moon Knight + Blade: Khonshu empowers Blade for a dash combo with the Sword of Dracula, finishing with multi-slashes and a bouncing moon blade projectile.
Retired/adjusted Team-Ups:
-
Retired: Lunar Force (Cloak & Dagger + Blade/Moon Knight), Operation Microchip (Black Widow + The Punisher).
-
Changes: Magneto removed from Mental Projection (Emma Frost + Psylocke); Hawkeye removed from Chilling Assault (Luna Snow + Iron Fist); Black Widow joins Primal Flame (Phoenix + Wolverine/Black Widow).
Balance snapshot: buffs across Vanguards (and some fan favorites)
Season 5 opens with a utility-oriented pass that makes tanks and frontline supports more versatile, while nudging several Duelists upward.
-
Vanguard class: broad buffs aimed at team utility and role flexibility.
-
Captain America: Ultimate now accelerates teammates’ Ultimate charge.
-
Peni Parker: Webs heal allies who stand in them.
-
The Thing, Hulk: durability/impact tuned up.
-
Wolverine, Spider-Man: targeted buffs to keep pace with meta mobility/dueling.
-
Loki; Cloak & Dagger: power bumps to maintain viability with new Team-Up mixes.
Expect more number tweaks in the follow-up 5.5 patch as Rogue arrives.
Competitive mode updates: placement matches and smarter queues
-
New placements: Instead of a blunt reset, you’ll play 10 placement matches to determine your starting rank each full season. Strong records can seed you near (or above) your prior tier.
-
Team queue rules: If all players are Grandmaster or lower, parties of 2/3/4/6 can queue together. If anyone is Celestial, Eternity, or Top 500, the team size caps at duos.
-
Season rewards: Nameplate Frames and Crests of Honor now span the full season (no split across 5.0/5.5). Rewards grant after 5.5 ends.
Cross-progression finally arrives
Season 5 turns on cross-progression, letting you carry skins, emotes, and unlocks across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S under a chosen main account. (Ranks/leaderboards remain platform-specific.)
New spaces, modes, and cosmetics
-
Times Square Social Hub: a non-combat New York map that hosts up to 100 players for meetups, emotes, and hangs between queues.
-
18v18 Conquest Annihilation: a large-scale mode launching November 27—not day one—designed for chaotic objective play.
-
Anniversary rewards (Nov 27): log in to claim 2,500 Units and a Legendary “Business Jeff” outfit, with additional celebratory cosmetics rotating through the shop.
-
Companion accessories (highlights): Rogue for Gambit, Bag-Man for Human Torch, Kitty Pryde for Magik, Drax for Mantis, X-23 for Wolverine, Cyclops for Phoenix, Throg for Thor, Alligator Loki for Loki, Khonshu for Moon Knight, and V-Pet for Star-Lord.
What Gambit and Rogue mean for the meta
-
Strategist depth: Gambit immediately widens comp options that rely on planned detonations and ally utility without sacrificing pick potential. He pairs naturally with magnetism/control lineups and objective bust strats.
-
Power-copy counterplay: Rogue’s December arrival will disrupt mirror matchups and punish telegraphed ult windows. Expect draft mind-games around who she targets and how teams bait or stagger key cooldowns.
