CSUF Soccer Player Lauren Turner Dies in Scooter Crash
Lauren Turner, a promising player on the Cal State Fullerton women’s soccer team, tragically passed away following a scooter accident. The incident occurred nearly six weeks prior to her death, where she and her teammate were struck by a box truck while riding electric scooters near campus.
Details of the Accident
On September 27, Turner, aged 19, and teammate Ashlyn Gwynn were en route to a men’s soccer game around 7 p.m. The collision took place on Associated Road near Yorba Linda Boulevard, according to the Fullerton Police Department. Eyewitness reports indicated that both women sustained significant life-threatening injuries. Neither was wearing helmets at the time of the accident. Fortunately, alcohol and drugs were ruled out as contributing factors.

The Fullerton Police are actively investigating the incident. As of now, no charges have been filed against the driver involved in the accident. Kristy Wells, a public information specialist with the police department, confirmed that the inquiry is ongoing.
Lauren Turner’s Legacy
A native of Tustin, California, Turner began playing soccer at the age of 4. She exhibited exceptional talent during her high school years at Beckman High, where she not only played on the varsity team for four years but also captained for two years and earned MVP honors in her junior season.
At Cal State Fullerton, Turner made an immediate impact as a freshman, participating in all 20 games, with four starts, and concluded the season with one goal and one assist. In her second season, she started in eight of the ten games played.

A candlelight vigil honoring Lauren Turner will take place at Titan Stadium on the Cal State Fullerton campus. The vigil is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. PST on Wednesday. Her teammates made an emotional statement, recognizing the immeasurable impact Turner had on the Titans women’s soccer program. They expressed their love, stating, “We love you Lauren, our No. 5 Forever.”

As for Ashlyn Gwynn, an October 30 update on her GoFundMe page revealed that she had shown significant improvement after spending a month in the ICU and was moved to a progressive care unit. Gwynn’s family described her recovery as nothing short of miraculous.
