PlayStation H1 Sales Surge; PS5 Lifetime Sales Hit 84 Million
Sony’s financial report for the first half of its fiscal year indicates remarkable growth in the Game & Network Services sector. The company has optimized expectations for its games revenue, boosted by the strong performance of its network services and game software.
PlayStation 5 Sales Milestone
The PlayStation 5 has achieved significant sales success, reaching a lifetime total of 84.2 million units. During the second quarter alone, Sony sold an additional 3.9 million PS5 consoles.

Game Software Revenue Growth
Sony’s Game & Network Services performance was supported by improved revenue from network services, particularly PlayStation Plus. In comparison to the previous quarter, network services revenue rose by 13.7%, totaling ¥182.6 billion ($1.1 billion).
Game Software Units Sold
- Overall game software sales increased by 2.7% in Q2 to ¥629.3 billion ($4 billion).
- First-party titles contributed 6.3 million units to total sales.
- Ghost of Yōtei, launched on October 2, sold 3.3 million copies within 32 days.
Forecast Adjustments
Based on these positive results, Sony has revised its sales forecast for Game & Network Services, now anticipating revenues of ¥4.4 trillion ($28.5 billion) for the fiscal year. This marks an increase from the previously predicted ¥4.3 trillion ($27.8 billion).
Despite some challenges, including a decline in operating income due to impairment losses related to certain assets, Sony remains optimistic about its gaming division. The strong performance of the PlayStation 5 and recent game releases underscores the console’s sustained popularity in the market.
