Speed Limits Changed! Drivers, Stay Alert!
In a recent meeting held at the Art Istanbul Meeting Hall in Istanbul, significant changes to traffic regulations were discussed. This meeting, organized by the Istanbul Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME), included representatives from the Istanbul Governorate, the Istanbul Police Department, and the Directorate of Highways.
Updated Speed Limits for Drivers
One of the primary agenda items was the streamlining of traffic signages across Istanbul. Moreover, the meeting focused on updating speed limits at various road segments throughout the city. A unanimous decision was made to change speed limits in 84 specific locations.

- Total updated speed limits: 84 locations
- Locations on the European Side: 57 points
- Locations on the Asian Side: 27 points
- Inspection points involved: 1,168 locations
Rıdvan Oğul, the Branch Director of Transportation Coordination, explained the rationale behind the updates. Citing the Presidential circular 2025/14, he highlighted the need for reviewing and standardizing road speed limits across Turkey.
A dedicated commission was formed by the Governorate to oversee this important initiative. The commission assessed roads characterized by high traffic capacity, carrying out comprehensive evaluations.
As a result of these assessments, speed limits were revised and necessary signage adjustments were implemented. The initiative aims to enhance road safety and clarity for all drivers in Istanbul. Drivers are encouraged to remain vigilant as they navigate the updated roadways.
