The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which includes JDU and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is projected to form the next government.
Bihar Assembly Elections 2025: Winning Candidates from Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal
As per recent projections released following the second phase of voting, the Janata Dal (United) is expected to secure between 67 to 75 seats, capturing approximately 20% of the total vote share. This election marks a historical change, as both JDU and BJP contested an equal number of 101 seats each under the NDA banner. This is the first time both parties have gone into elections with equal territory, contrasting with previous elections where JDU contested more seats than BJP.
Historical Context
In the 2020 elections, the dynamics were different, with JDU contesting 115 seats while BJP fought for 110. Despite JDU’s larger number of contested seats, BJP outperformed them by winning 74 seats compared to JDU’s 43. However, current trends indicate that the NDA could retain a majority in the assembly with an overall expectation of achieving between 147 to 167 seats.
Opposition’s Performance Expectations
The Mahagathbandhan, also known as the Grand Alliance and led by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), is anticipated to secure around 70 to 90 seats. Other parties in the fray, such as Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj and Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM, are expected to have minimal success, potentially winning zero to two seats and two to three seats respectively.
