RFK Jr. Pushes Doritos and Cheetos to Remove Additives

PepsiCo is taking a significant step in snack food production by removing artificial flavors and dyes from two of its most beloved products: Doritos and Cheetos. The company introduced a new line, “Simply NKD,” which aims to cater to consumer demand for cleaner ingredient lists.

Launch of Simply NKD Products

In a press release dated Thursday, PepsiCo announced the debut of a dyeless version of Doritos and Cheetos. Hernán Tantardini, the Chief Marketing Officer of PepsiCo Foods U.S., emphasized the company’s commitment to maintaining bold flavors while eliminating artificial ingredients. The new offerings will include:

  • Simply NKD Nacho Cheese Doritos
  • Simply NKD Cool Ranch Doritos
  • Simply NKD Puffs Cheetos
  • Simply NKD Flamin’ Hot Cheetos

Background on the Initiative

The decision to create Simply NKD products aligns with a broader movement in the food industry. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has advocated for the removal of petroleum-based synthetic dyes from food products in the United States. Other companies, including Kraft Heinz, have also begun to reformulate their products by eliminating artificial dyes.

Availability of New Snacks

The Simply NKD line is set for pre-order and will hit store shelves starting December 1. PepsiCo’s announcement reflects a growing trend among consumers who seek healthier snack options without compromising on taste.

As stated by PepsiCo, “If we can reinvent Doritos and Cheetos, imagine what’s next.” This sentiment highlights the company’s readiness to innovate and respond to health-conscious consumer demands in the snack food market.
